Our Full Review
Honest Amish is run by a bearded dude named Roscoe who was already producing quality organic beard care products before the current beard trend arrived. His original product is a Beard Balm that he billed as "better than oil". So when he finally decided to make an oil based conditioner, he knew he had to knock it out of the park!
*A note about our review process: We ask our panel to consider many aspects of each product. However, only factors tied to performance or cost are used to determine the overall score.
Branding and Product Design
The company sits sits smack in the middle of Amish country, and that is what inspired their name. Their packaging and logo are reminiscent of an old-timey hand drawn flyer promoting barnyard square dance.
The bottle arrives enclosed in a small burlap bag and has a helpful informational card attached. The bottle cap has a built in eye-dropper, which is always something we are a fan of.
Blend of Ingredients
Some beard oils skate by with only 2 or 3 simple ingredients. Others focus on adding one primary essential oil to the standard mix of carrier oils. Then there is the Amish Honest blend!
They combine an astounding 7 different premium oils! The blend contains a wide range of vitamins and anti-oxidants that leaves your beard feeling soft and manageable. According to their website, it also aides in beard growth and skin health.
Level of Effectiveness
We think that using an eye-dropper is the preferred way to apply beard oil, so we like the fact that there is one built into the bottle cap with this brand. Most guys were pleased with the results they got.
For 90% of folks it does an outstanding job of conditioning and softening their beard. But, a small fraction of guys with long, thick, coarse beards felt that it wasn't as effective as it could be, which reduced the final grade by a slim margin.
Want to start a quick argument sometime? Set out a bottle of Honest Amish Classic Scented Beard Oil and ask 10 people to give their thoughts on its scent. Undoubtably, there will be some strong opinions on both sides.
We've found that the majority of guys either like the scent or at least don't hate it. In essence they have no problem using it each day. However, the folks that hate it, REALLY hate it. If you enjoy eating black licorice or root beer is a favorite, then you'll have no issues with it.
Cost per Ounce.
This one is a no brainer. At the time of writing, this brand was selling for $13.87 for a 2 ounce bottle on Amazon (includes free shipping for Prime members). That is less than $7 an ounce! Other leading brands can cost double or triple that amount, making Honest Amish an absolute steal at that price!
Here's the deal. This is a quality beard oil sold at a great price, so all that is left to determine is whether the scent is for you or not. So until some bearded genius invents a way to transmit smells online, you are just going to have to use your best judgement on whether or not Honest Amish is for you. But at less than $7 per ounce, you can afford to be wrong.
